SR Cowboy Ventures SR Cowboy Ventures has also been the home of industry standouts such as Genuine Cowboy Jac, Hickory Chic Olena, Order Me A Shine, Five Star Wrangler and Kick N Nic . . . see below.
A Brief History In March 2002, SR Cowboy Ventures lost Genuine Cowboy Jac, and he will be greatly missed. However, the legacy of this special stallion continues on thanks to his talented offspring. Click Here to see a full page in memory of Cowboy and a celebration of his winning offspring.
In late fall 2002, at the 8th Annual Futurity & Cow Horse Classic Sale in Oklahoma City, Sally Ress was extremely fortunate , again! This time, in her purchase Hickory Chic Olena from Richard Bergquist. This 1991 sorrel stallion is sired by $9.8+ Million Dollar Sire, Smart Chic Olena; and out of the well bred mare, SR Hickory Lynn. Hickory is a magnificent stallion with a great mind and wonderful disposition. These traits, along with his athleticism and love of performing, have been aptly illustrated by his long career and distinguished show record. His proven ability to sire multiple Futurity, Derby & NRBC winners, have made him one of the performance industry's top stallions. After Ress purchased Hickory Chic Olena, the following year of 2003 was an eventful year. Hickory emerged from retirement, and shown by Drake Johnson, embellished his already numerous achievements. He added 36.5 AQHA Open Reining points to his existing 113.5 Amateur Reining points, earned a "2003 AQHA High Point Senior Reining - Top Ten" status, captured numerous AQHA and NRHA Championships, and ended the year with an NRHA Futurity Open Freestyle Reining Reserve Championship title (his first bridleless performance).
2004 got off to a big bang for SR Cowboy Ventures when Hickory earned his AQHA Superior in Open Reining at the Pre-Denver Circuit and a Championship win at the January 2004 NWSS Dodge Invitational Freestyle Reining (again, bridleless!!). After a successful 2004 breeding season, Hickory began showing again and , following an invitation to perform Freestyle Reining at Westfest in Snowmass near Aspen, Colorado , he continued to accumulate Open & Reserve Championship wins culminating in an All American Quarter Horse Congress Senior Reining Reserve Championship. Following his last two years in the showpen, as a 12 and 13-year old performer, Hickory Chic Olena ended his career as a performer with 176.5 AQHA Points and Lifetime Total Earnings over $45,300. In January of 2005 he retired with 176.5 AQHA Performance points and more than $45,300 to his credit.
In January 2005, with his numerous championships, reserves and top 10 finishes in Open, Non Pro and Amateur divisions to his credit, 14 year old Hickory bid farewell to his fans and his "show career" at the National Western Stock Show Dodge Invitational Freestyle Reining. SR Cowboy Ventures enjoyed five successful years standing this handsome and truly talented stallion. Then, on October 20th, 2007 at the Legacy Sale in Aubrey, Texas, John Lloyd became the proud new owner of Hickory Chic Olena. Hickory currently stands at his new home in Kentucky , and with his proven record as a performer and a sire, Hickory Chic Olena continues to be an outstanding choice for reining, cutting, and working cowhorse mares . . . whose foals will be eligible for the spectacular Kentucky Quarter Horse Association Incentive fund and more! Other top performers previously owned by SR Ventures include two gorgeous palomino stallions, Order Me A Shine (Shining Spark x Metermaid To Order) and Lenas Frosted Chex (Chex That Out x Budha Royal). A very talented athlete, Order Me A Shine earned over $21,000 in NRHA events on his way to capturing numerous championships, including a Silver Medal in Freestyle Reining at the 2003 United States Equestrian Team (USET) Festival Of Champions and a 5 th Place Overall in the USET Reining Futures Championship events . In September of 2003, Order Me A Shine was sold to Jose Paulo Vallone of Brazil. Lenas Frosted Chex , a 2004 Congress Reining Futurity Intermediate Open Finalist, was sold to Shari Jaster of Colorado later that year. In 2006 Five Star Wrangler, a talented 2004 bay gelding (Starlights Wrangler x Ima Hollihobby Horse), owned by Ernie Ress, was added to the list of performers, achieved All American QH Congress Futurity Finalist status, and was sold in February 2009 to Jack Shinogle of Colorado. In late 2007, Kick N Nic, a stunning 2005 sorrel stallion (Starbucks Sidekick x Gypsynic by Reminic), became Sally Ress' newest performer at SR Cowboy Ventures and, after earning nearly $5,500, was sold in February 2010 to Jeanne Jackson of Colorado.
